The spirits are talking silliness thru the wires

According to Jung, at around the age of six or seven we separate and then hide away the parts of ourselves that don’t seem acceptable, that don’t fit in the world around us. [first line from ‘Spirits in the Wires’, by Charles DeLint]

I carry a wisp of that little girl still inside. I remember I was not feeling well that day, it was late summer, and I was in Grandma’s bed…it was my favorite place to be. Dorothy and I where inseparable for close to two years. It worried my Mom I guess, but Grandma said it was fine “let her make-believe, let her play”.  Heck, for all I know Grandma probably was the one who gave me the mop. She was a youth of the dirty 30’s and silliness all aside, who needs dolls when you got a mop.

In Elf Shoe and other silliness I embraced wonder and mystery; and I was reminded twice today of that seagull. When I was writing it I came across this photo, it made me go, em. I did play when I was little, but I decided that story was for another time. Actually I had forgotten about this little girl recently, and I needed to find her again. I remember being a serious child and Grandma helped me be silly. She was way more silly than anyone I else I knew — I’ve met goofier since, but rarely as silly. Bach’s Jonathan Living Seagull was one of her favorite books.

Today is one of those days that just is awash in meaning and messages.  It seems that I find myself reminded again and again of that seagull. Of the seagull that circled above Tim’s grave, and of course of Jonathon Livingston Seagull, the one who flew beyond the wires, beyond the sky. Spirits are talking.

So with the seagull in mind, and after my last week of delving into my old journals, this weekends TedTalk struck a cord. I actually had Paul read Grandma’s book back than; I thought in his hypo-manic state he may be able to grasp what Bach was saying.

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor ‘Does Our Planet Need a Stroke of Insight? — “Before 2008, everything I did had something to do with mental health. I’m a neuroscientist, and I was all about understanding how we create our perception of reality, and understanding what’s going on in the brains of people who experience hallucination and delusion.

But then I gave a TEDTalk about my experience with stroke. Within weeks of delivering that talk in 2008, my life changed and the repercussions still resonate loudly in my world”.

“We have the power to choose who you want to be in the world.”

“The better we understand the choices we have been making, either consciously or unconsciously, the more say we will have in the world we create. Neurocircuitry may be neurocircuitry, but we don’t have to run on automatic”.

@TedTalk Weekends – Messages worth spreading

Irish in the past has not been known for her listening skills. I learned recently that may be partly my fault, or ours. So now I'm learning to have more faith, and she's listening.
