Grandma & Grandpa

It’s in the Look

grandma-and-grandpa

Love is so many things, at different times. Love of a child,  a mate,  an idea. In my collection of photos,  in the old of my grandparents and my own shots, there are a few that stand out.

This one-shot for me though says it all.  This shot is of my Grandparents, it was taken around the mid-late 1930’s. From this one picture, you can see how enamoured with her he was. Grandpa was a quiet, reserved man. Grandma was vivid and fun and lived life. They were an unlikely pair, from different worlds. She an Anglican, him an Irish Catholic. He was from money, she was not. She grew up in the country, him in town. Her Dad was a farmer, his was a judge. His family looked down on his choice, thought Grandma was beneath him.

However Grandpa knew that she was a wealthy lady in all the ways that mattered.

    1. My sister and I haven’t figured that out yet. It’s a mystery. She appears in a quite a few shots….so she must be either a friend or a relative. I have another shot of all three of them bicycling that same day.

  1. What a beautiful story of love. How true is it that so many judge on false ideas of wealth? I will take rich in character anyday! A lucky find indeed. I love this photo, it makes me smile. :)

    1. I’m glad, it does me too. I never really new my Grandfather well, he died when I was 6. I have always had a sense of him though through the stories everyone told…I should write about him more. Well, I do, but I mean more just about him. I’ve told alot of stories of Grandma & her family, but he was just as interesting as her. I think I’m rambling now, I’ll stop.
