FEATHER ON THE BEACH

Off Into The Mystic

in little bits
in pieces
I say goodbye
day to day
a little less, means alittle more.

to hold
onto
you, and
today you
are alittle farther
away

more present now
this time of day

stripped of illusion
and the lies of the flesh
and you knew
you knew
somehow had always known.

back
back before us
and those four square days
back

and you, poured out your souls truths
to one who was like a brother.

And that secret was kept
until it could be told

to me. but only after, long after

And in those days
those last days
roadside treasures were your bouquets
and a picker paradise your dinner for two
and I knew too.

feather messages entangled in the sky
and elf moccasins from the moss
coyote howl, and crackling wood
became our lullaby.

as I say goodbye
I take my time with it
for these sorts of things can not be rushed.
meandering down lanes, and a dusty canvas day
bits and pieces of cloth
entangled in bits of an old wooden fence
twill be my only recompense

things i loved are now entangled
with our dust
for those four-square days
are now embedded in the grain of my ancestors wood.
