Daily Prompt: “Success is a journey, not a destination”

Bit of serendipity to this Daily Prompt. This morning I finally sent off my first resume to a potential employer. So as one could imagine the whole idea of “success” has been foremost on my mind of late. It’s merely the first, but that one email took me almost 24  hrs to create & send. One foot in front of the other.

“What is a life well lived to you?” To which my first thought was … being true to your gifts. Honouring them by having the courage & experience to go past the obstacles of the past.  Going forward with a humble faith in your own abilities in the pursuit of happiness is no mean task.

I’ve become somewhat of an expert on that journey.  It’s a difficult subject to avoid when you love someone who is looking death in the face. Life is precious, and with all that we have and all that we have been, in the end all we really mean by success is HAPPINESS.

Its only when we strip away all the packaging, all the regular networks you rely on, the friends and family that support you, your looks, your health … when you take everything you think you need away….what is left? Who are you then? How do you get up everyday and go forward?

So success to me is ONE step taken towards whatever life has in store. Success is not a destination, it is, as Robert Hastings would say, the journey itself.

  1. “being true to your gifts. Honouring them by having the courage & experience to go past the obstacles of the past.” I love this. I love how you accurately place the obstacles in the past. Our gifts are often handcuffed by the past. Thank you for this wonderful advice.
