an idyll for Euston

ep 7

my breath
  you steal
upon cresting the hill
  and down i go
  that well-trodden way
past the asters and chickory
 towards the woods
    again
       we go.

All of that, and more, it was yesterday. A doc I’d watched on ancient pathways in Britain is what prompted me to return, as I had not been back in ages. The meadow is lovely in summer, it is lovely in spring, yet for me, it is autumn in the woods that truly moves me.

Everything is beginning to turn, and the leaves still cling to their branches. Soon it will all be bare, and the forest floor will be opened up, the light will change, and I will certainly be back to trod through the snowy pathways, as I have every year since I returned.
