How I Find Magic, And You Can Too

Returning to the beginning, to old posts from those first weeks of late October and into November of 2012 when I was working through that complicated grief Tim left in his wake and had just begun to blog. I come to them now only by way of the “go random” widget (hit the + sign below) I placed in the footer. [see end for how … Continue reading How I Find Magic, And You Can Too

More on Flaws and Beauty

It seems as though this subject for me just won’t go away. Everyday it seems of late it has reared up and added another layer of jam to this cake called Pretty vs. Beauty. Just this morning again a new spot I found added another poignant nut. It was so well-timed, because just this morning I saw one of my nieces finding herself and learning … Continue reading More on Flaws and Beauty

Magic is Alive at the Lake

In the four years, I have spent here, I have come to recognize that there is more to this lake than meets the eye. For instance, the depth is deceiving, as in one area it goes as far as 150 feet. In those environs swim Large-mouth Bass of advanced age and other secrets I’m sure. It is here on Mothers Day in 2011 that I … Continue reading Magic is Alive at the Lake

The Gift of a Story

Growing up Grandma (the northern one, not the southern) lived next door at THE BIG HOUSE. Every night before bed Grandma would come in after Mom and rub our backs (my sister and I) and give us a kiss goodnight. Often my last memory was of Mom and Grandma in the Living-room, their voices just discernible every now and again over the TV. However on … Continue reading The Gift of a Story

Crow Stories

Twelve years ago in the year 2000, I was working at a Call Centre and my shift at that time started at 6 AM. I would walk to work the 45minutes, getting up at 4 AM, leaving at 5 AM, grabbing my Coffee at the Tim Horton’s on the way and getting to work for 5:45 AM. I was a busy girl. It was the … Continue reading Crow Stories

Fred the Ficus showed me “the way”

Fred the Ficus is, of course, a rescue. Yes, I even save the odd houseplant that SOMEONE has tossed out ON THE BACK PORCH {my sister}. So poor Fred was out there all alone in the dark on her back porch; out back where they parked the cars and stored the garbage. I can still picture him. All alone and so sad-looking. He was mostly … Continue reading Fred the Ficus showed me “the way”

The Mount | September 2011

There are places where I have felt at the time this is sacred space ~ at home on the riverbanks of the Thames, on the front porch of that home in Dodge, and around the century old oak dining room table that sits in that house; I have shared sacred space. Here now at this Cottage, actually the whole lake, is sacred space to myself … Continue reading The Mount | September 2011

Elf shoe & other silliness

I believe I have wasted a lot of time over the years trying not to look silly. I have no idea why because I was not raised by especially serious people. My Grandmother could be silly, and she was a very important part of my childhood until her death when I was 17 years old. I was a serious child and to this day I … Continue reading Elf shoe & other silliness

Is it weird to have a favourite leaf? Well, this heart shaped one on Fred the Ficus is mine. ♥️ Oldest leaf on Alocasia Stingray, from last summer outside in my wee woodland. Tgis thing has not stopped... all winter. They all did well this winter. I tell ya, its the rainwater... they are pampered. #myplantbabies Oxalis Regnelli - called #falseshamrock - a type of woodsorrel * native to southern climes of south america * gets red wine undersides in brighter light ** little morning or afternoon light ideal *** place on higher shelf, so you can admire its profile. #pinksyngonium light needs is a bit of an experiment. Too much light can trigger more green, but too little and can lose the pink. Each variety is a bit different. Welcome to my wee jungle. North window light, supplemented by a couple grow lights. Fred the Ficus is happy for the company, barely lost a leaf this winter. #plantsinwinter #ficusbenjamina #plantsmakemehappy #happyplanthappylife #junglevibes This is Fred #ficusbenjamina junior, growing in #LECA since last summer. Really seems to like the medium. I don't give him hydro nutes, just a schultz+marphyl mix in tap water, which i add to rainwater. ♥️
